After stumbling in and out of college at multiple schools, I decided to give higher education one more try as a student at TMCC in the spring of 2003, when I accepted a peer advisor position in Counseling & Academic Advisement. As a double-dose first generation college student, I changed my major seven times searching for the perfect major and career, but it turned out I had already found it as an advisor. I enjoyed the process of working with my fellow college students so much that I changed my educational goals to prepare me to become a professional Academic Advisor. After completing my Associate of Arts at TMCC, I went on to graduate from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2008 with a Bachelor of General Studies with an emphasis in Biology & Theatre and a minor in English writing (in case I ever want to write plays about amoebas), a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership in 2010, and a Master of Education in Learning and Technology in 2022.
As a Certified Appreciative Academic Advisor®, MBTI® Master Practitioner, and Strong Interest Inventory® Certified Practitioner, I try to create a welcoming and inclusive environment both in-person and virtually. I am here to support all students as they explore and pursue their educational goals, especially those dealing with uncertainty who are perhaps taking the scenic route through college as I once did.
I am the Athletics and International Academic Advising Coordinator. I have been lucky enough to work in international education for over a decade helping students studying in the U.S. on an F-1 Visa adapt to American higher education, transition to life in a new country, and reach their goals. International students bring a richness to our TMCC community and the greater Reno, Nevada area. No matter where you are from, you are welcome here and I look forward to supporting you.
As a member of the Athletics Compliance and Eligibility team, I am a firm believer that intercollegiate athletics provides student-athletes with a positive foundation both in the classroom and on the field that will help them build life skills that will benefit them today and in the future.
Outside of work, I'm a Certified Professional Life Coach, 200-hour registered yoga teacher currently working on my 300-hour yoga teacher training, and Reiki Master who enjoys snuggles with my dog, paddle boarding, yoga, meditation, hiking, time in nature, and reading.
If you have questions, I'm here to help you find answers. Thank you for allowing me to support you on your educational journey!
