About me:
Welcome to TMCC Academic Advising! My name is Courtney and I look forward to working with you on achieving your education and career goals here at TMCC. I am originally from Upper Michigan and started working in higher education as a work-study student at Northern Michigan University. As an undergraduate student I was undecided for the first two years, but eventually realized I loved the health field and worked hard to earn a Bachelors of Science in Community Health Education. While working as a work-study student I provided services to students in a Registrar's Office. Throughout this experience I recognized the impact that post-secondary education can have on a student’s life and developed a strong desire to work with students on a college campus.
Having lived in the same town since I was five, I took a leap of faith and moved 1100 miles away from my hometown to Boston, MA to pursue a Masters of Education in Administration of Higher Education at Suffolk University. After graduating with my masters I continued to work in the Boston-area at two four year schools as a Student Success Coordinator/Academic Coach and an Academic Advisor.
In 2015 I took another leap of faith and moved to Reno to be closer to family who had migrated to Nevada. I started at TMCC within Veteran Services certifying VA Educational Benefits, advising student veterans, and evaluating military transcripts. In 2017 I took a full-time position within Academic Advising. I still continue to work closely with military-connected students and act as the liaison for the Life Sciences, Allied-Health, and Public Safety Academic Division. I am also an MBTI and Strong Certified Practitioner.
Outside of Advising I enjoy hiking in the Sierras, paddle boarding, traveling to new places, cheering for the Detroit Lions, watching all grand slam tennis tournaments, and hangout with my min golden doodle and husband. I also keep busy raising a flock of hens in my backyard, which has been eggcellent!
I believe earning a post-secondary education can have a significant impact on a student’s life professionally and personally. Wherever you may be in your educational journey I am here to help you reach your goals!
