Hello! My name is Bri and I am an Academic Advisor at TMCC. Growing up, my dream was to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. I earned my Associate of Arts degree at TMCC while pursuing my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno. I appreciated the opportunity to attend these wonderful institutions simultaneously as they offered unique experiences and allowed me to best tailor my degree to meet my needs both academically and personally. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I immediately began taking classes in the Counseling Program at UNR. While taking my first Counseling Theories course, I realized that maybe the career field that I had dreamt about for so long, was not actually right for me. It is hard to describe the multitude of feelings that came along with that realization. With much disappointment, sadness and confusion, I took a couple of years away from school to work and wrap my head around what a new path might look like. After much self-reflection and identifying my innate talents and interests, I decided to return to UNR and pursue the Master of Arts in Educational Leadership. Now with 6+ years of experience in higher education and advising, I am so fortunate to be able to leverage my skills to help students identify their goals and create an academic plan that allows them to actualize their dreams. I say all of this as a way to showcase to students that it is ok to change your mind and it is never too late to pursue what is meant for you. Everyone’s journey is unique. Let’s talk about yours!
